12:53 am - Resectioning established dreads?
My babies are two months old now, and I've become less than fond of some of the sectioning because its creating a big bald patch. Particularly one in the back at the crown of my head, its too fat and part of it has already split off at the root. I'm thinking of trying to split it and another one near by in two diagonally, then combining the splits in the middle to make a 3rd. Would it hurt the development too much, or should I do it now before they mature any more and its more difficult?

I looked through the memories and decided to just try and rip them apart rather than cutting then sew in any loose hairs and leave them alone after that.

i started my dreads on nov. 19th this year in asheville while visitng...

ive ran into some problems while im locking my hair. my locks seem loose, not really nappy, and i cant figure out how to make them tighten up. my roots seem really loose, too, and frizzy - right now all i do is palm roll, i dont use much wax at all. i dont see much of a difference in my dreads when i palm roll them. are there any other methods i can use (i want to use as little product as i can in my hair) to tighten my dreads? also on the roots i twist them around and roll them around in a circle on my scalp. am i doing something wrong?

also, what should i NOT put in my dreads? i know regular shampoo should not be used under any circumstance.. but in a bind, can i use an organic soap? (ive used chandrika sandalwood soap since ive had them, and only once.. its been awhile haha... that soap has been fine but im just not sure.)

when trying to make two smaller dreads take into one bigger one, what should i do?

also what is this jazz i hear about wax being bad for your dreads and getting all up in there and making them fall apart in later years? im overwhelmed by dready superstition...

thanks you guys - im working on my second month.

04:19 pm - Bleach is like Bacon, so bad yet so good...
I posted for my two monthes, now I'm at 2 and a half. I just wanted to show off my freshly bleached locks... It's rare I feel outgoing about my looks, so I'm going with it! I had some serious roots growing in, so I needed them done. It just seems to take me forever to have time, even with being snowed in the house for two days.
On with the pictures!! )

11:18 pm - a year and some change
About 20 minutes ago I meandered into the bathroom under the ruse of "Oh, brb, potty time" with a pair of scissors. I was followed into the bathroom by my boyfriend who has since confiscated all scissors in the house, and we actually got into a physical wrestling match over a pair of them.

Well. Wtf am I supposed to do at this point? The past year has been intense with more pain then happiness, and I'm ready to shed some weight and start over. I've been flip flopping for the past month or so about ditching my locks but tonight I've made a solid decision, only to have my evil plans thwarted by my supposedly well meaning boyfriend. I am once again at a loss. So I pose a question for those who have cut off or combed out their locks after having them and nurturing them for a long time.. was it an easy decision? Do you have any regrets? Did you change your mind during the process, only to find that you can't really go back?

I wasn't ready, then I was, now I'm unsure again. It's hard to put into words exactly why I wear locks in my hair. It's hard to put into words how they've changed my thoughts and views of the world and my own personal ideas of beauty. It's hard to explain how much more calming and reassuring it is to fiddle with one of my dreads then it was to play with my brushable hair. I almost feel like I'll be giving up a huge part of myself if I cut them off, and in the same vein.. it's hair. I'll most certainly make a new set when my hair grows out. I don't know how I'll feel once/if I cut them off. I think that's what scares me. I'm sorry if this post is bizarre and rambling. I guess it's really up in the air whether or not my next one will be "goodbye for now, GUDU".

Till then, whatever it is.

12:58 pm - Goa Dreads part 1!
Well I had an amazing time in Goa in November, it was a real adventure, and an eye opener for me. My first big trip abroad on my own (well, the curly haired man came too...) I'm doing some epic posting in my own jornal about what we did and what went on over there, so this is just "OMG how awesome were my dreads after swimming for a week!"

So heres the first batch of dreads spammage from 24 days in India!

In no particular order days 1 - 10

Poser?

Dreads, parties, elephants, waterfalls, and a little spider.... )

If you want more of the adventure, wildlife, activites and so on, check out my flickr albums, or my journal! Always willing to add new firneds who like dreads and palm trees ;)

02:54 pm - Hey - a newbie here
Hi, I'm Sandy from El Paso, TX... I am a newbie to LJ and dreads. I don't even have them yet actually... My hair is only a bit longer than in my profile picture. Can anyone tell me the best way to get started? And how long does my hair have to be? I heard that I can start when it's an inch. My wife and I tried to do them a couple of times when I had longer hair, but the 1st time they looked and felt awful and the next time we couldn't keep them going. (long story) My other concern is that some dreads look absolutely vile and dirty and others look amazing!!! I have heard that they just lock up and kinda have a mind of their own in a way. Any advice / opinions? Thanks, ~Sandy~

11:39 am - A litte over six months maybe?
So six months ago I decided to dread up again. I had a few random ones here and there of different ages, but when my friend came to town we knotted the rest up. No one probably remembers me, it's been a while since I posted, but it's alright I'm just glad to be back on the internet. kjjfhsdifhosidjfs )

11:25 am - Happy Times
I'm having a day of exquisite dread love. I've got a nice beer in me, the air smells like woodsmoke and snow, my sister and bro-in-law are coming for Christmas and I had a lovely salt soak earlier. I'm feeling pretty happy at the mo' so I thought I'd celebrate with a couple of dreadshots.

I felted some pretty wool in there to make myself feel a better a little while ago and I love the way it looks with my bumpy dreads as they knot up. :D

Have a look )

p.s. Please don't tell me the dangers of felting, etc. I've read the memories and I know. <3 Thanks!
